THE ANTIOCHIAN VILLAGE
A Collection of Designs Created for the Antiochian Village Summer Camp
The Antiochian Village, located in Western Pennsylvania, "transforms lives and nurtures faith in Jesus Christ through Orthodox Christian community living, worship, education, fellowship, and love". Having attended the camp as a camper for 5 years, worked as a CIT and Counselor, the opportunity to work with such a transformative place could not be passed up.
Summer Staff 2023
The design for the Counselor Staff of the 2023 summer was inspired by vintage camping and outdoorsy merchandise. Given free reign when coming up with what would be the shirt worn by the entire summer staff, I avoided clean lines and shapes, in favor of a slouchy and rustic look.
My process included extensive research on similar styles of design, including logos and various apparel designs. These four images include symbols akin to daily life at the Antiochian Village Summer Camp. Riding in the red canoes at the lake, the red road sign which meant you had arrived for your summer session, and the chapel surrounded by looming trees all act as markers in association with AV.
Here the shirts have left the digital space, and entered into the physical. The first image shows the male counselor staff walking from their cabins to the main area where campers are introduced to their companions for two weeks in rousing fashion. The second image depicts the excitement felt when finally being matched with your campers on arrival, to begin a fun and fruitful camping experience. It never gets old seeing your designs in the world.

Winter Camp 2023
Similar to Summer, Winter Camp at the Antiochian Village sees campers from around the country visit camp grounds, now in the month of February when the air is still crisp and the tree can be found to have a dusting of snow on their branches. Winter Camp holds such found memories for me, both as camper and a counselor.
Unlike the 2023 Summer Staff shirt, the admin at AV were very specific in what they wanted with the design to the back of the shirt. It had to be encased in this shield design, and include towering trees with snowflakes. Sticking with this rustic feel, the font I chose invokes feelings of whimsy and merriment, rounded edges and curled up tails eluding to the laid back and fun nature that is Winter Camp at the Antiochian Village.

AV Open Charity Golf Tournament
I was approached by the admin team of the Antiochian Village to design a logo for their Inaugural AV Open, a golf tournament that would take place in 2023, and raise money for operations and future projects around the camp grounds. Held in May of 2023, sponsors and participants were able to raise more than $10,000 to help with constructions on one of their facility buildings.

Male & Female Staff Summer 2021
Summer of 2021 would begin my journey working with the Antiochian Village as a Freelance designer. The Female Staff shirt relied heavily on the typography. In 2021, this retro style of design was very popular, and I translated that into the design using two different fonts. The Male Staff shirt uses typography with an icon element intertwined. Both take text from the Male and Female Staff that is either recited by them everyday, or have become mantras repeated over the course of the summer.

Both the female and male head counselors wanted designs that would complement each other, but have the ability also to distinguish between the two other than color.
